Alexi Vahlkamp

AlexiAlexi Vahlkamp received her BA from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2009, where she double majored in English and Creative Writing & Rhetoric.  A current student at the University of Chicago School of Service Administration, she expects to receive her Masters in Social Work, with a concentration in older adult studies, in June 2012.

Alexi has done research for the Institute for Geriatric Social Work in Boston, MA, as well as clinical work with older adults in independent, assisted living, and dementia care residences.  She currently interns at the American Medical Association's Aging and Community Health department.  Alexi’s passion for senior care emerged from a close relationship with her grandparents, who served as guiding lights for much of her young adult life.   Their passings – both at the age of ninety-five – have only strengthened her commitment to the population.

Before college, Alexi volunteered abroad teaching English in Israeli high schools.  She still tries to return to the region most summers to visit friends.  While in Champaign, IL, she worked for the Hillel of Illinois and taught Religious School at Temple Sinai.  When her student life affords her a break, Alexi enjoys vegetarian cooking, hard candies, and running.

She hopes that her grandparents' longevity will afford her a long career in senior care advocacy.
